How to evaluate this requirement
Prepare three scenarios: a routine repeat lane, a shipment requiring an accessorial and a time-sensitive order. Add one prior invoice that differed from its quote. Provide accurate packaged dimensions and weight, applicable class, dates, locations and required services. Include the relevant carrier agreements and identify which information the demo team may use. The goal is to test your buying process, not just watch preselected lanes.
Ask to see customer-contract, direct-carrier dynamic, spot and national 3PL options with clear source labels. For national 3PL choices, distinguish several providers from several carriers offered through one provider. Ask who supplies each price, who is the contracting party and what conditions govern execution. Record unavailable sources and the onboarding steps needed before launch.
Choose an offer and change one requirement. Observe whether a delivery service, pickup date or revised shipment weight triggers a new quote and preserves the history. Follow tender acceptance, shipping documents, status updates and exception ownership. Then show the mismatched invoice and ask where supporting evidence, approvals and corrections live. Identify what an operator can resolve and what needs specialist support.
Finish by asking for reports that procurement and finance can both explain. Request a comparison of like shipments, coverage of the comparison population and separate charge views. Ask how dimensions, class, weight and distance changes are handled without counting the same effect twice. Agree on an implementation pilot, named owners and the evidence needed to move from pilot to normal operations.
